Positive messages for Aged Care Worker Day delight staff

11 August 2022 in Residential Aged Care

In the lead up to Aged Care Worker Day 2022, MYVISTA CEO Irene Mooney sent out a simple email to the families of residents of its Balcatta and Mirrabooka aged care facilities inviting them to send a short message of thanks and appreciation to staff.

The response from families over a few days was remarkable. MYVISTA received a flood of emails thanking staff at both sites for the care they take of loved ones and family members. Many people made sure they thanked not only the nursing staff but also those involved in other areas of care such as catering, cleaning and reception staff.

“We have been deeply touched by these many expressions of thanks and we have been sharing them with the staff so that they know how much they are appreciated by the residents and their families,” Irene said.

“Our Director of Nursing at Balcatta, Dr Mya Daw Sien, said the messages have recharged her batteries and that it is wonderful for staff to see how much they are appreciated.”

In several of the messages, family members also mentioned how they noticed their loved one’s overall wellbeing had improved since coming into care at MYVISTA and that their loved one seemed happier and healthier than before.

“I would like to thank all those families and residents who responded to our invitation to let staff know they are appreciated. It has been a challenging few months in aged care as we have been contending with COVID and these messages have meant a great deal to us all,” Irene said.

Every comment received has been added to a series of posters that will be displayed at both facilities
